Find out how these clear braces can fix crooked smiles no matter how old you are.
Are you living with a gap in your front teeth? Do you hate that your smile is just a little misaligned? If so, then our San Diego, CA, dentists, Dr. Daniel Stevens, Dr. Christina Tsang, and Dr. Vahid Tabibzadeh, have a simple and nearly invisible solution that will fix these minor issues quickly and effectively.
What is Invisalign?
When you think of braces, you may think about the type of braces that require stainless steel brackets and wires to be bonded to the front of your teeth, however, Invisalign offers a completely different approach. No metal, no brackets, no wires—just clear, custom-made aligners, that resemble transparent mouth guards. These removable aligners fit against the teeth to help guide them gradually into the right position over time.
How does Invisalign work?
In order for aligners to work as effectively as they do, our San Diego dentist will need to map out a treatment plan to determine which teeth will need to move during the treatment as well as exactly how much they will need to move in order to get the results that you want. From there, we will take measurements of your teeth and send this information to an Invisalign-approved lab.
The lab will then create your very own set of aligners. The number of aligners you’ll need to wear will depend on the severity of the dental issues that you are looking to treat with Invisalign. Minor alignment issues will require fewer aligners than more serious dental issues will.
Each aligner is worn for 1-2 weeks at a time for about 20-22 hours/day. Aligners should only be removed prior to eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. After all, the more often you wear your aligners, the faster you’ll see results!
Who is a good candidate for Invisalign?
Invisalign is geared toward adults and older teens that are looking for a subtle and more discreet way to straighten their smiles without resorting to traditional braces. Invisalign is a great option for those patients looking to fix,
- Gaps between teeth
- Open bites
It is important to note here that Invisalign may not able to handle more complex tooth and jaw movements. Additionally, this clear orthodontic system is not ideal for children and young teens because their teeth are still growing.
